This 5 day course is designed for the general public and is intended to be a practically based course whereby participants can learn the basics of garden designing that they can apply to their own garden or a part thereof.

 

The Course covers the following topics:

 

  • A history of garden design

  • Different garden styles

  • Defining personal preferences

  • Site analysis, basic surveying and zoning

  • Design principles and goals

  • Working with plants and hard landscaping elements

  • Drawing scale plans and working out quantities

 

One of the biggest mistakes lovers of bonsai make is believing that bonsais MUST be started from seed!! It will take you a lifetime!. In fact it is quite acceptable to start a bonsai from an already established tree that can be bought from a nursery.

 

In this fun and creative course the following areas are covered:

 

  • The background to bonsai growing

  • The horticultural aspects and care of bonsai

  • Bonsai styles and basic techniques

  • Starting your bonsai from established nursery stock

  • Potting, wiring and training your bonsai

  • Displaying your bonsai.

Aimed at general gardeners, Garden maintenance companies and landscapers.

 

This course will equip gardeners and horticultural workers with the basic knowledge that will improve their performance and a deeper understanding of the reasons and science behind their work.

 

NOTE: This course includes a formal assessment and the issuing of a non-accredited certificate of competence. In addition, the portfolio of evidence and assessment results are registered with AgriSETA and any recognition of prior learning (RPL) is also noted and credited accordingly.
